Class Descriptions


Obedience Manners 1
Learn the basics - attention to handler, sit, down, wait, come, and loose leash walking.  No prerequisite.  First
session is orientation without dogs.

Obedience Manners 2
Build and proof the training skills you learned in Obedience Manners 1 as more advanced commands and
controlled exercises are introduced to build a solid foundation for future off leash work.  Distance, duration, and
distraction will be added to sit, down, stay, and recall commands.  Learn stay, leave it, drop it, touch, and
beginning heeling with pace changes turns and automatic sit at stops. Must have completed Obedience
Manners 1 or pre-approved by prior consult with the instructor.

Obedience Manners 3
This class readies you and your dog for adventures in the real world as a good canine citizen and companion.  It
includes practice for the Canine Good Citizen test and real life situational training.  You will proof all the basic
moves and clean up any areas of weakness.  You will learn how to shape heeling, and solidify leave it so that
you may stroll safely through real-life distractions and triggers.  Fast downs, and "head-snap" recalls will be
developed.  Auto sits, "finish" (go around), and back up will be taught while gradually building distance.  Must
have completed Obedience Manners 2 or pre-approved by prior consult with instructor.

(Obedience Manners 2 & 3 pre-approval private consult fee = $45.  Not applicable for clients who have
completed the prerequisite classes.)

OBEDIENCE FOR DOG SPORTS
Designed for the dogs preparing for dog sports, including agility, flyball, canine freestyle, disk dogs and others,
this course will emphasize working and remaining focused through high level distractions. Behaviors that will be
practiced will include: Appropriate play ~ Stays with distractions ~ Come away from distractions ~ Come past
distractions ~ Go away from me ("go on") ~ Left Turn/Right Turn. This is 6-week class and your dog should
attend all six classes.
Course prerequisites:
•        Dog must be at least 6 months of age
•        Completion of a Beginning and an Intermediate training course or equivalent
•        Proof of current vaccinations

Growly Dog 1
If you have a dog who behaves badly (barks and lunges) at the site of or when passing "stranger dogs", making
your leash walks difficult and stressful, this class will teach methods to help your dog gain coping skills and
become more relaxed, focused, and happy when approaching and passing other dogs.  Learn how to manage
your dog's leash reactivity, and to change the way your dog feels about other passing dogs while he's on leash
to eliminate his barking and lunging to result in more pleasant leash walk experiences.  Completion of a pre-
screening form and a phone consultation are required before bringing dogs to class.  The cost of the pre-
screening review and phone consultation are included in the fee for this


Beginning Agility
A 6 week session starting with getting the dogs familiar with the commands and equipment used in Agility. The
sessions will build up to course work. Areas to be focused on will include:
o        Ground work
o        Motivation & Play
o        Targeting
o        Send and Recall
o        Jump work
o        Intro to Agility Equipment
o        Strength Training

Continuing Handling Skills.Agility
A 6 week session for graduates of Beginning Agility with the Instructor’s approval. Focus will be on Course work,
endurance and

Puppy Class

Using positive reinforcement training techniques, you will learn the skills needed to raise and maintain a happy,
well-adjusted dog. Puppies will learn general manners such as sit, down, coming when called, and playing nicely
with others.  A portion of each class will be dedicated to puppy socialization play.  Also, a variety of puppy
behavior issues will be addressed such as housetraining,  chewing, bite-control, jumping on people, and polite
greetings.

1.     Dog
1.     Exercise and relieve your dog prior to class
2.     If class time is near dog’s mealtime, feed only 1/2 meal and bring the rest to class
2.     Edible and Toy Treats
1.     Soft, small dog treats work best (ask instructor for size suggestion). Ask your vet before trying new treats
2.     Small toys (plush or other) if your dog enjoys them as a reward
3.     Equipment
1.     Four Foot - Six Foot leash (leather or nylon)
2.     Flat Collar (buckle or clip)
3.     Halti, Sensation Harness or Gentle leader - Optional
4.     Please, no Flexi or Retractable leashes
4.     Vaccinations
1.     Proof of Rabies and current vaccinations for all dogs over 16 weeks
2.     Proof of 2 DHLPP – for puppies 16 weeks or less
5.     Optional
1.     Mat for dog to lie on
2.     Chew bone for quiet time (only if easy to take away)
3.     Water and water dish



Tricks Class

For dogs that already know obedience and can sit and stay, the Tricks class is a fun way to learn more and stay
active.  This class is also great for teaching focus around other dogs.  And it is a fun way to teach an older dog
new tricks that you can continue to play with your dog at home.
Prerequisite:  Obedience 1 or Equivalent
